Returning After a Long Absence
It’s been a while since I’ve written here. Hell, I shut this website down—closed the chapter so to speak, and during that pause, I felt as though parts of myself slipped away in the midst of life’s storms that flowed like a California “atmospheric river”. The version of me who used to find solace and inspiration in reflection faded, overwhelmed by being displaced yet again from my life’s dreams and realities. I was thrust into a winter—one that brought deep solitude and forced me to confront the pain of losing the person I once was. Survival became my focus, and in that process, old pieces of myself were shed, making way for something new.
A Season of Darkness, Loss, and Gratitude
Without getting lost in details, I’ll share that in the midst of cold and hardship, profound loss colored my days—including the loss of my former self. The process felt like peeling away old layers and surrendering to what I couldn’t control. Yet, through the emptiness, gratitude slowly emerged. I began to rediscover what brings healing: touching the earth, feeling soil beneath my fingers, and watching the miracle of a sprout. Even without a farm, tending plants in buckets on a cement city patio helped me reconnect. The monkey mind stopped, my blood pressure went down, and I felt inspired to grow more, so I’d have more to share. I realized that staying in the darkness wasn’t an option; nurturing the soil brought me back to balance and helped me breathe. That reconnection supported my healing and gently guided me toward transformation.
Healing, Community, and Resilience
Life’s challenges will always shake us, sometimes deeply. We lose things—and versions of ourselves—that once felt essential. But with the right support and tools, especially from a community that helps us return to our center, we can move forward with grace.
For me, Vital Earth Living represents far more than just a farm. It embodies the idea that healing can be found anywhere there is soil, no matter how small the patch. Whether it’s a sprawling field or a few containers on a city patio, these spaces become sanctuaries where gentle, earth-rooted healing can take place. In these moments of tending to the earth, nervous systems are given the chance to recalibrate and find peace. From the soil—no matter its location—life emerges anew, resilient and ready to thrive despite whatever challenges may come. Vital Earth Living is about nurturing not only plants, but also the spirit, fostering growth and renewal through simple, mindful connection with the land.
In honoring these cycles, I hold space for both what’s gone and what’s growing inside me.
